SERIES DETAILS

  • Category: Youth C (12-13 – regional events only), Youth B (14-15), Youth A (16-17), Junior (18-19)
  • Division: Female / Male
  • Targeted LTAD Stages : Train to Train, Learn to Compete and Learn to Win
  • Events (3): Eastern Regional Championships, Western Regional Championships and National Championships
  • Discipline: Bouldering & Difficulty
  • Duration: 4 days (regional) – 6 days (national)

There will be no Youth Lead Regionals for the 22-23 season.

GOALS

REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • Qualification course for youth nationals
  • Development opportunity for athletes who will not qualify for national championships
  • Development opportunity for setters and officials
  • Possibility of hosting for local centers, regions, OPTS, who do not qualify for the hosting of National Championships
  • Preparation for the format used during the North American Cup Series:  “modified scramble”

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • Crown the National Champions
  • Point Allocation for  Continuous National Ranking  (CNC)
  • Entry pathway to the  High Performance Program  (PHP)
  • Junior World Championships (YWC) Selection Pathway
  • Development opportunity for athletes who will not be part of the PHP or YWC teams
  • The finals are at a level to prepare the athletes who will make the PHP and YWC teams.
  • Talent identification event for athletes aged 16-19
  • Development opportunity for setters and officials
  • National celebration of our sport

 

HOURLY

REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: This events will take place over 2 days. In order to complete the event within the allotted time, there will be no semi-finals:

  • Day 1 – Block qualification
  • Day 2 – Block Finals

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: This event will take place over 6 days:

  • Day 1-2-3 – Bouldering Competition
  • Day 4 – Rest day
  • Day 5 and Day 6 – Difficulty Competition

For each event, athletes can enter and qualify in both disciplines, or in one discipline only.

 

COMPETITION FORMAT

Format Block

  • Qualification – 5 on 5 off insulation. 4 problems OR IFSC Flash Format (depending on entries)
  • Semi-Finals – 5 on 5 off isolation. 4 problems (For Nationals only. Regionals will NOT have Semi-Final rounds)
  • Finals – World Cup format, 4 minutes. 4 problems

Format Difficulty

  • Two (2) qualifications – Flash Format
  • One (1) Semi-Final – On-sight 
  • One (1) Final – On-sight

 

QUALIFICATION

Route #1 – Pre-qualification

Some athletes will receive an invitation to the National Championships, without having to qualify:

  • PHP Athletes: Juvenile A and Junior athletes selected to the Senior High Performance Program following the High Performance Competition will receive a direct invitation to the National Championships.
  • Reigning Juvenile National Champions in the previous year
  • Athletes who participated in the Youth World Championships

Pathway #2 – Provincial or Territorial Qualification

All other athletes will need to qualify for National Championships by following this provincial or territorial process:

  • Guaranteed PTSO Quotas (Top X): Each Province and Territory will receive a fixed number of quota spots for National Championships. The fixed number of quotas will be determined according to the capacity of the host center
  • PTSO Quotas for the Youth Combined Regional Championships (Y Quotas): Each province and territory will receive a fixed number of quota places for the Regional Championships. The fixed number of quotas will be determined according to the capacity of the host center. Unused quotas in this category will be reallocated to other provinces in the same region using a membership size priority system.
  • Quotas at Regional Championships for National Championships (Top Z): The best athletes in each category at the Regional Championships will advance to the National Championships. The fixed number of quotas will be determined according to the capacity of the host center
  • Each province and territory has the autonomy to decide how they will fill these quotas. CEC strongly recommends the organization of a fair competition to qualify athletes fairly
